About Us
A crown commercial enterprise, the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission (AGLC) is an agent of the Government of Alberta and consists of a Board and a Corporation.
Our structure includes:
- A six-member Board that reports through the Chair to the Minister of Treasury Board and Finance who is responsible for the Gaming and Liquor Act; and
- Six divisions that manage the day-to-day operations of the organization.
The AGLC Board develops policy, conducts hearings, and makes licensing and registration decisions to ensure that Alberta's liquor and gaming industries are well regulated and well managed to benefit the people of the province. It also ensures the powers and duties of the AGLC are carried out.
The AGLC's role is to administer the Gaming and Liquor Act, Regulation and related policy. The AGLC is responsible for regulating Alberta's charitable gaming activities and conducting and managing provincial gaming activities. It also controls the manufacture, importation, sale, purchase, possession, storage, transportation, use and consumption of liquor in Alberta.
Core Businesses
The AGLC has two core businesses: liquor and gaming.
These core businesses are established in accordance with the Gaming and Liquor Act, the Gaming and Liquor Regulation, and the Criminal Code of Canada.
Being Responsible
In Alberta, we all have a role to play in being socially responsible.
For the AGLC, being responsible means being accountable and providing policies, regulations, and educational programs and tools to provide safe delivery of gaming and liquor activities.
For our industry partners, being responsible means complying with legislation while offering services that meet the needs of the public.
For the public, being responsible means ensuring you make informed choices and follow the laws and regulations set out by your government (e.g. age limits on gambling and liquor activities). If unsure about what choice to make, it is your responsibility to seek out information to help provide perspective.
Vision
Driven by a bold and balanced approach, AGLC will be a leader in creating progressive gaming and liquor experiences trusted and enjoyed by Albertans.
Mission
Our promise is to ensure responsible gaming and liquor choices that deliver economic and social benefit to Albertans.
